**Lamson LQ5 WT Outfit (No Line, Center Axis, LiteSpeed) and Orvis Superfine Comparison**
**Lamson LQ5 WT Outfit:** Pros:1. Lightweight: The LiteSpeed design makes it a lightweight option, which is beneficial for long days on the water.
2. Durable: The anodized aluminum construction ensures that the reel is highly durable.
3. Smooth Drag: The carbon fiber drag system provides a smooth, consistent drag.
4. Aesthetic: The sleek, modern design of the Lamson LQ5 is appealing to many anglers.
Cons:1. No Line Included: Since it comes without line, you'll need to purchase line separately.
2. Price: Compared to some other options on the market, the Lamson LQ5 can be quite pricey.
3. Learning Curve: The click-pawl drag system can take some time to master.
**Orvis Superfine:** Pros:1. Includes Line: The Orvis Superfine comes with line and leader, making it a more convenient option for some anglers.
2. Affordable: Compared to the Lamson LQ5, the Orvis Superfine is generally more affordable.
3. Smooth Drag: The cork and stainless steel disc drag system provides a smooth, consistent drag.
Cons:1. Heavier: The Orvis Superfine is heavier than the Lamson LQ5, which may not be ideal for long days of fishing.
2. Durability Concerns: Some users have reported issues with the durability of the Orvis Superfine, particularly with the reel seat.
3. Limited Customization: Since it comes with line, you have less flexibility to customize the setup to your specific needs.
**Conclusion:**Both the Lamson LQ5 WT Outfit and the Orvis Superfine have their strengths and weaknesses. If you prioritize lightweight, durability, and a more customizable setup, the Lamson LQ5 WT Outfit might be the better choice for you, despite its higher price point and learning curve. On the other hand, if affordability and convenience (with the included line) are more important, the Orvis Superfine could be a suitable option, despite its heavier weight and potential durability concerns.
**Recommendation:**If budget is not a major concern and you prefer a lightweight, customizable setup, I would recommend the Lamson LQ5 WT Outfit. If you're looking for a more affordable option with included line, the Orvis Superfine could be a good choice, but keep in mind the potential issues with durability. Always make sure to research and test out equipment before making a final decision.
The Axis rod is a 4 piece, 5wt, matte grey blank, with black accents. The rods are well-built, quality medium-fast action. The Axis sports a crisp, medium-fast action. Trident Rod/reel review: The reel is a Lamson favorite, the Litespeed. It has new Orvis Hydro Superfine 5 wt line on it, with a multi colored backing.
At 60 feet the rod comes alive and Lamson innovation allows a smooth casting stroke consistent power. Flex and Feel, The axis mount changes the feel of a fly rod entirely. No reel hanging off the rod means moment of inertia changes drastically. The increased balance and smoothness really become apparent as you move back to 40 feet.
I bought this rod/reel to use as a travel rod, but didn get around using it. Need to make a long cast with dry fly. Perceived balance, smoothness, and accuracy increase with distance when casting the Axis. Warranty, Lifetime warranty.
The Axis will get the job done. Its still new with the plastic in cork.
